We are excited to share that WebMD has been selected as the winner for two of the Internet industry’s most coveted awards: The Webby Award and The Webby People's Voice Award!

With 12,000 entries received from all 50 US states and over 60 countries, and for its second consecutive year, WebMD is recognized by both a panel of judges as well as the voting public as the best website within the Health category.

All winners will be honored at the 18th Annual Webby Awards hosted by Patton Oswalt at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on May 19, 2014.

This year, WebMD’s excellence was also recognized in additional Webby Award categories including:

  • Health and Fitness-  The WebMD app was selected as an Official Honoree, with media outlets taking note of this new mobile health and fitness app category. In a recent Reuters article, the reporter notes, “this is the first year health and fitness apps were given their own category.” David Ziegler, director of mobile product management for WebMD, adds, "In addition to improving the look and feel of the entire app and our popular symptom checker utility, we wanted to offer users the ability to read about healthy living-related content on a daily basis."

  • Education & Reference (Handheld Devices)- The Medscape app, the highest-rated and fastest-growing app among healthcare professionals, was nominated as one of the five best in the world in its category. The Medscape app is recognized as a useful tool for accessing critical educational content and reference materials.

  • Lifestyle (Tablet & All Other Devices)- WebMD Magazine was selected as an Official Honoree for its excellence in lifestyle and healthy living commentary, providing information and resources that allow consumers to make informed health and wellness decisions.

About The Webby Awards:
The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996 during the Web's infancy, The Webbys are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) — a 1,000+ member judging body that includes Executive Members composed of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities, and Associate Members who are former Webby Award Winners and Nominees and other Internet professionals.

The Academy is an intellectually diverse organization that includes members such as musician David Bowie, Internet Co-inventor Vint Cerf, Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of Huffington Post Media Group, Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone, Chairman and Founder of R/GA Bob Greenberg, Co-Founder of Instagram Kevin Systrom, Executive Creative Director at Google Lab, Iain Tait, Mozilla CEO and Chair Mitchell Baker, Tumblr Founder David Karp, and the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, Lawrence Lessig. The 16th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states and generated over 1.2 billion media impressions worldwide.
